The
land that Lions has been situated on since 1928 has been
leased from the University of Texas. The golf course tract
is part of a large parcel that also includes student
housing, retail stores, restaurants, even the LCRA
buildings.
As Austin has grown, especially in the
last dozen years, property values in the area have gone
through the roof and the University of Texas Regents have
expressed a desire to develop the property. Ouch!
The Regents have had several meetings
and there was a strong showing from golfers and others
concerned, but it would appear that the wheels are in motion
for development.
One probable solution for keeping the
course would be for the city to start negotiations with the
University. The is the start of the path of save Muny. Expressing your feelings to the
Mayor and Council members would go a long way and it's as
easy to do as sending an email.
To do so go to this
link where you can send an
email to city management in one easy form.
Thank you for your continued support.
